Dental specialists complete two to six extra years of training after dental school and usually work on referral from a general dentist, although most accept patients who call directly. Orthodontists straighten teeth with braces and clear aligners; endodontists handle root canals; periodontists treat gum disease and place implants; oral and maxillofacial surgeons extract wisdom teeth, place implants and do jaw surgery, often under IV sedation; prosthodontists rebuild smiles with crowns, bridges and dentures; denture centers focus on full and partial dentures, relines and repairs. Sedation and hospital dentists serve anxious patients and people with special needs, while TMJ and sleep-apnea dentists make oral appliances for jaw pain and snoring.

Jacksonville is in Florida, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. Getting around Jacksonville is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Florida's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

If you're considering UF but have other options, go with the other options. Another "if i could give this place 0 stars i would" review: My experience with UF began when I was referred to get my wisdom teeth and one other tooth removed. It took WEEKS for them to accept my referral to even make an initial consultation. Arriving at the consultation was jarring. The office was disgusting and clearly unkept. The individual room was even more disgusting and unkept. During this initial consultation, I discussed the treatment plan. I was then told that they would bill my insurance and they would then call me to schedule an appointment. It took them -2 weeks to get back to me to schedule- and then i was scheduled for OVER a month after the initial consultation. (By the appointment to actually pull the teeth, the process would be 4 months from initial referral sent) Three follow up calls occurred, during these follow up calls I made it very clear that I had extensive anxiety and would require my partner to be with me through pre-op. Formerly, I had medical negligence and abuse occur, and I am frightened to go through procedures alone. I was assured on four separate occasions that it would

There are truly not enough words to thank the teams at UF, the SICU, and the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery team for what they did for Brianna and our family. This was, without question, the most supportive, compassionate, understanding, and collaborative medical team we have ever experienced. Their knowledge was exceptional, but beyond that, they treated us like partners in Briannaβs care. They listened to us as her family, understood her disability and complex needs, respected our ability to advocate and care for her, and remained committed every single day to getting her safely back to baseline after a major surgery. There were so many moments throughout this journey where individuals went far beyond what their job required. I know I will never remember every single name, but there are people who left an impact on our hearts forever. To the OMFS team β you were flawless from beginning to end. Dr. Stephen V was unbelievably kind, patient, and informative every step of the way. From the very first day, he consistently checked in, explained things thoroughly, and helped guide us through one of the hardest moments our family has faced. Dr. Carusoβs team was incredibly attentive and

My god son needs to see a Dr after an accident. He has an entire facial fracture and needs SURGERY. My best friend had to go so far as emailing the Dr because the staff here couldnβt schedule a simple surgery. My god son canβt even blow his nose because his face is broken and they said oh we can get him in June 2nd. Heβs been waiting almost 2 weeks at this point. The front of the house staff here is an utter joke and this could be detrimental for his health because they canβt even schedule and emergency appointment.

I had a badly corroded tooth which needed to be extracted. From my initial consultation through the actual extraction, all the staff were helpful, explained everything thoroughly and made sure I was comfortable through the entire experience. Everything went so smoothly and I am so grateful for their professionalism and caring. No more pain in my mouth and gums! Yeah! Thanks, team!
